William Ray Berger

William (Bill) Ray Berger, age 67, went home to be with his Lord on November 8, 2020 after a short illness, surrounded by family and friends in Ocala, Florida. William was born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 20, 1953 to George Edward Berger and his wife, Doris Leona Harris Berger. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1971 where he was active in wrestling, drama, and music. After high school he attended Westmar College on a wrestling scholarship. He met his wife Robyn of Sioux City, Iowa in 1972, and they married that December 1, 1972. William enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1976, William and his family returned to Sioux City, Iowa. Bill worked for Iowa Beef Processing until 1996, and later worked in Logistics in various locations until settling in Altamonte Springs, Florida in 2004 to be closer to grandchildren. He retired from Logistics in 2012, and moved to Ocala, FL during his retirement years, enjoying the community life for the remainder of his days. Bill was a lifelong avid sports lover. ticipated in Gun Club, and served as Deacon for his church family at New Beginning Christian Church in Ocala, FL. Throughout his entire life he loved getting together with friends, and family for quiet conversations, parties and sporting events (Go Cubbies and Huskers!). William and Robyn renewed their vows on December 18th, 2019 in presence of family, friends, and county, and it was a joyful affirmation of their years of marriage and commitment to each other. Bill was a loving and involved grandfather to his four grandchildren, and they experienced the care, time and fun that he brought into his relationships with them. He was an incomparable Papa, Ya ya, and Grandpa Berger. William made sure that they each knew they were the joys of his life and the apples of his eye. William lived a life that exemplified his principles and character, and in doing so left a legacy for all that knew him of love, acceptance, integrity, hard work and incomparable humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lola Johnson and Judith Smith. William is survived by two daughters, Kristi Berger, Rachelle Sansing and sisters Bonnie Ducommun, Opal Berger, Debra Stortvedt and brother, Ronald Berger, grandchildren Henry Sansing, Mona Rae, Jack Sansing, Sudhakar Naravulu, as well as a host of nieces and nephews..
