Donald Wehde

Donald G. Wehde, son of George & Daisy Stubbs Wehde was born July 2, 1922, in Tipton, Iowa. He graduated from Tipton High School in 1940 and enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1942, training as a machinist and serving in Oran, North Africa, for 27 months. He was discharged in November 1945. On June 25, 1945, he married Rae L. Ridenour in Washington, D.C. From 1946-1952, Mr. Wehde worked as a mechanic, then spent twenty years as an employee of Hargrave Implement Company before purchasing the Ford Motor dealership in 1972. In 1987 he sold Wehde Motors to Jerry O'Rourke. During the many years he lived in Tipton, he served his community. A city council member for ten years, he served on the TEDCO board and as president of the Tipton Golf and Country Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Cedar Manor Board, and the Tipton Rotary, receiving the Paul Harris Award. He also chaired the fund-raising efforts for the Cedar Manor expansion, the Civil Service Commission and the Board of Adjustment. A Legion member for fifty years, he served as Commander of the VFW.
