Thomas J. McCabe

Thomas James McCabe, age, 90, of Warren, Michigan, entered into Eternal Life on December 27, 2020. Thomas was born into this earthly world on June 1, 1930, to the late Patrick McCabe and the late Jessie (Forsythe) McCabe in Detroit. Thomas was the second of seven children, Patsy, Dorothy, Beverly, Patrick, Richard and Robert. He graduated from St. Catherine High School in Detroit, where he played football and continued to sing in the church choir. Tom married his beloved bride Mary Jane Sand on October 14,1950 at St. Jude Church, Detroit, and they celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2020. Tom and Mary resided in Warren for 67 years and had 3 children. Tom retired from Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. where he worked in several capacities, and served as Vice President, and Secretary Treasurer of Gas Workers Local 80. He and Mary enjoyed traveling to many states for union conferences, and they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii. In retirement, Tom continued to enjoy family celebrations and vacations, especially at Boyne Mountain Resort, golfing gardening, and dancing with Mary, who he had met at the Vanity Ballroom. i and the Lanterns, who performed, sang and danced locally. Tom McCabe was a proud Irishman who deeply loved his Catholic faith and his family. No one was a stranger, he could talk with anyone, and his many stories are legend. Tom is survived by his loving wife Mary, his brother Patrick (Marcella) McCabe, his children Christine (Ken) Kole, Charlene (Richard) Allemon, and Thomas Michael (the late Diane). He adored their 8 grandchildren, Adrianna, Leah, Neil, Amber, Erica, Michael, William and Austin. Tom delighted in their 11 great grandchildren, Zander, Valin, Braden, Julius, Madelyn, Carson, Joseph, Rowan, Ellie, Logan and Luke. He heartily enjoyed the large extended families on both sides, siblings, in laws, and many nieces and nephews. Thomas McCabe often exclaimed that he was a "blessed man", and his family was blessed to have him as the patriarch of their clan, a sterling example of faith, love and charity to others. His legacy of laughter and song will live on in each of them. Arrangements entrusted to Chas. Verheyden Inc., 43300 Garfield, Clinton Twp., Michigan.
