George J. ''Sonny'' Hatfield

George Hatfield MUSCATINE, Iowa - George J. 'Sonny' Hatfield, 70, Muscatine, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Unity Hospital after an extended illness. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Prince Swamickan will officiate. Pallbearers are Chad Kemper, Darrin Kemper, Jeff Hollenbeck, Don Brookhart, Max Shoultz and Dennis Shephard. Honorary pallbearers are Adam Starkweather, Jason Stillman and Bob Streets. Musical selections will be provided by organist Gloria Shoultz and vocalist Shirley Starkweather. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a luncheon following the burial at Island Methodist Church. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. Mr. Hatfield was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Muscatine, the son of George and Elizabeth Underwood Hatfield. He married Mary Ann Norris Aug. 6, 1955, in Muscatine. He was a member of Island Methodist Church; the Moose Lodge, the Hon Retiree Club; was an assistant Cub Scout Master; and member of the Order of the Arrow. ars. He enjoyed spending time with his 11-month old granddaughter, Madison Marie. One of his favorite pastimes was collecting antique tractors. He enjoyed watching NASCAR. Survivors include his wife, two sons; George Hatfield and Jonathan Hatfield and fiancé, Wendy, all of Muscatine; a daughter, Pauline Hutchinson and friend Steve of Coal Valley, Ill.; a brother, Wesley Hazelett of Pebble Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Susie D. Selser; and a son, Wesley.
