Gary R. Holmes

Gary Holmes MUSCATINE, Iowa - Gary R. Holmes, 64, rural Muscatine, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his home. A memorial reception will be held 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory in Muscatine. Memorials may be made to the Gary R. Holmes Memorial Fund. A Celebration of Life will be held 5 p.m. Friday at the Atalissa Corner Tap, Atalissa. Mr. Holmes was born on Oct. 7, 1937, in Muscatine, the son of Ralph and Harriet Nau Holmes. He married Sandra Lee Courtois, the mother of his children, in 1960 in Muscatine. They later divorced. He served in the U.S. Army for two years at Fort Hood, Texas. He was a member of the American Legion. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for five years. He owned and operated Holmes Equipment and Holmes Backhoe Service for many years. Survivors include two sons, Blake Holmes and wife Diana and 'Jay' Holmes and wife Debbie, all of Muscatine; a daughter, Beth Lanfier of Muscatine; five grandchildren, Codi Holmes, Austin Holmes, Logan Lanfier, Sarah Honts and Ryne Honts; his mother, Harriet Thomes; a brother, Dana Hammer and wife Sharon of Burlington; a sister, Helen Timpe and husband Conrad of Coron...[more]
