"LEFTY" GARVIN MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- Wayne Charles "Lefty" Garvin, 81, of Muscatine, died Sunday, August 10, 2003, at Unity Hospital. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church, 417 Green St. The Rev. Bernard Weir will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the V.F.W. Post 1565. A luncheon will be held at Gannon Hall following the committal service. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home with a Rosary Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Mary's Church. Wayne was born May 4, 1922, in Iowa City, the son of Charles and Mary Flinn Garvin. He married F. Jeanne Johnson on December 13th, 1945, in Muscatine at St. Mary's Church. He attended Muscatine Schools and St. Mary's High School. ron Workers - Local 111 for sixty-one years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, American Legion Post 27 and the Elks Lodge No. 304. He was a member of the original Planning and Zoning Committee in Muscatine. Wayne was a master gardener in his own right. He especially enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Above all, he treasured the time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jeanne Garvin of Muscatine; his sons, Patrick Garvin of San Antonio, Texas, Steven Garvin and his wife, Cynthia, of Muscatine, and Timothy Garvin and his wife, Susan, of Batesville, Indiana; six grandchildren, Sara Storr, Laura Sanders, Rebecca Garvin, Jacob Garvin, John Garvin and Jessica Garvin; one great-grandson, Benson Storr; nieces and nephews and a special niece, Joann Wintermute, and sister, Evalyn Comfort of San Diego, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Doris Wintermute and Vera Robbins. Rest in peace Lefty, Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa. We love you!
