May Durst MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- May M. Durst, 83, Muscatine, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Lutheran Homes. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Wesley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Hal Green will officiate. Pallbearers are Brian Durst, Mark Durst, Leigh Fisher, Eric Hopp, Dennis Hopp and Kristine Hopp. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. After the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, 2907 Mulberry Ave. Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church or May Durst Scholarship Fund. Mrs. Durst was born May 20, 1920, in Muscatine County, the daughter of Otto E. and Hazel M. McVey Harrington. She married William A. Durst April 29, 1939, in West Liberty. She was a life-long resident of the Muscatine area. She was a teacher in the Muscatine School System for 35 years before retiring. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Unity HealthCare Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, M.A.R.T.A. and was a former member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Durst and wife Glenda of Kendala, Texas; a daughter, Linda Sue Hopp and husband Gene of Hollister, Calif.; a sister, Jean Meinke of Zellwood, Fla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Otto Earl Harrington; and a sister, Loy Bush.
