Helen Shenk MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- Helen Marie Shenk, 93, Muscatine, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at Lutheran Homes. Services were 11 a.m. today at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Vicki Pedersen of Lutheran Homes officiated. Casket bearers were Tony Sturms, Todd Sturms, Matt Dodds and Jeff Weggen. Honorary casket bearers were Dawn Dodds and Beth Weggen. Burial was at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. After the burial, a time of food and fellowship was held in the Community Room at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Visitation was 9-11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Lutheran Homes or the Parkinsons Disease Research in her memory. Mrs. Shenk was born Aug. 28, 1910, in Winfield, the daughter of Howard Griffith and Bertha B. Kramer Griffith Votroubek. She married Christian J. 'Crick' Shenk Jan. 25, 1933, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in 1966. She attended grade school in Cotter and moved to Muscatine in 1926. She was a homemaker who enjoyed certain television programs and especially watching the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Sturms and husband, Don, of Muscatine; a son, Steve Shenk of Muscatine; a brother, Howard Griffith and wife, Bea, of Columbus Junction; four grandchildren, Tony Sturms of Burlington, Todd Sturms and wife, Shelley, Dawn Sturms Dodds and husband, Matt, and Beth Shenk Weggen and husband, Jeff, all of Muscatine; seven great-grandchildren, Danielle Shenk, Amanda Whitworth, Sydney Weggen, Madison Sturms, C.J. Sturms, Adam Dodds and Morgan Dodds; and a great-grandchild, Alexandria Van Acker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Josephine Stapp and Marguerite Allman; and two sons, James in infancy and Jerry in 1997.
