Sally J. Hoffer
Mrs. Sally J. Hoffer, 69, of West Burlington died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at Great River Medical Center. Born June 6, 1941 in Wapello, she was the daughter of Earl and Goldie Herrick Maine. On July 28, 1963 she married Bruce Hoffer in Burlington. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2007. Mrs. Hoffer was born and raised in Wapello and graduated from Wapello High School. She worked for Champion Spark Plug, was the local coordinator for Congressman Ed Mezvinsky's campaign and was Associate Clerk of Court for Des Moines County, retiring in 1996. Mrs. Hoffer was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was a staunch member of the Democrat Party, West Burlington Booster Club, Hope Haven Committee, appointed to Judge Appointment Committees and was instrumental in building West Burlington's first swimming pool. She was a Chicago Bears football fan and enjoyed garage sale hopping. She was very involved with her children and grandchildren's lives. nd Bailey, Tristan and Kolby McClelland of Bowen; three brothers, Robert (Lib) Maine of Osceola, Missouri, Don "Mick" (Charlene) Maine of Davenport and Joe (Ginny) Maine of Wapello; two sisters, Beverly Spear of Davenport and Patricia (Alan) Peterson of Bettendorf; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three brothers, Edward Gary Maine, Leonard "Butch" Maine and James Maine. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 20th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. Hoffer will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 21st, in Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Susanne Smith officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
