of Chauncey and Alice Johnson Stegall. He married Helen J. Dora on May 9, 1947, in Muscatine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He was a member of the St. Mathias Church, Elks Lodge No. 304, Moose Lodge No. 388, and the American Legion Post 27. Richard joined Thermogas Company in 1957, when Valley Propane and Ammonia Inc., of which he was founder and part-owner, was purchased by Thermogas Company. He served initially as a branch Manager of Thermogas Companies at Fruitland and Wilton Junction. In 1959, he was promoted to District Manager. During 1962, he was promoted to Regional Manager and transferred to the newly acquired Indiana region and served in that area until January 1, 1968. In 1968, he was made a Vice President and transferred to Thermogas Inc. in Des Moines. He retired from Thermogas/Mapco in 1981. He and Helen moved to Kent, Iowa, and Richard took up farming, a cow calf operation and custom bailing. In 1997, Richard and Helen returned to Muscatine. Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Stegall of Muscatine, Sherie Lemon of Fisher, Indiana, and Sarah Krieger of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Courtney Krieger, Benjamin Krieger, Andrew Lemon and Laura Thorn; one brother, Roger Stegall of Fruitland; and two sisters, Marge Arnold of Bloomington, Illinois, and Kathy Zimmerman of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in December of 2003, one brother, Keith Stegall, and one grandson, Richard Lemon.
