Bonnie Lou Bigelow

Bonnie Lou Bigelow, age 95, of Quincy, went to be home with the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 6:50 am in Good Samaritan Home. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her throughout her entire life. We thank God for all the precious moments and memories that we have had with her over our lifetime. Bonnie was born on June 6, 1925 in Burlington, Iowa to the late Lawrence K. Meyer and Nellie (Hughes) Meyer. She was a graduate of Quincy High School class of 1942. She married Kenneth Arthur Bigelow on June 23, 1945 in Quincy, Illinois. Bonnie was employed as a telephone operator and obtained her Real Estate license to help her husband Kenneth Arthur Bigelow at Bigelow Real Estate. Together they raised two children, Cynthia (Cindy) J. Bigelow Thye, and Brad L. Bigelow. From the very beginning they dedicated their children to God and encouraged them to walk as Christians. home for the many celebrations that were held there for family and friends and church activities. Bonnie was an only child but she had two very dear friends that were like sisters, Vivian Pryor and Marsha Dinkheller. Bonnie was active as a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, served on the Evangelism Committee, and in the Women's Club. Bonnie, Kenny, Aubrey and Vivian Pryor taught the Co-Builder's Sunday School class at Central Baptist Church. Bonnie visited new attendees and welcomed them into the church with Helen Henhoff. Bonnie enjoyed Bible study, reading her Bible, dancing, square dancing, clog dancing, and line dancing with the Traveling Trompers Square Dance Club, Camper Stampers and the Silver Dollar City Square Dance Club. She enjoyed water aerobics, planting flowers and camping. She also enjoyed preparing meals for her family and volunteering at the Salvation Army. Bonnie and Kenny and their friends took turns hosting (A Breakfast Club) every Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day where a group of 20 adults and their children shared breakfast together for 50-60 years. Bonnie is survived by her daughter Cindy J. Thye, Overland Park, Kansas; her son, Brad L. Bigelow (Debra), Orlando, FL; two grandsons, Ryan Thye, Marietta GA and Cameron B. Bigelow (Avery), Sandy Springs, GA; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah Cole, Silas Thye and Roen They, Marietta, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Arthur Bigelow, and her parents, Lawrence K. Meyer and Nellie Meyer. Our mother rejoiced in the prospect of going to heaven and meeting her Lord. She earnestly looked forward to it, for she knew that death was not a loss but a gain. She knew that "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." She would encourage us to love Jesus and serve Him faithfully all the days of our lives. The family wishes to thank all those who visited Bonnie and took care of her at Good Samaritan Home over the past five years. A small graveside service, with her children present, will be held at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, followed by a family Celebration of Life in Georgia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church.
