Joe was born on December 13, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts to Joseph Patrick and Catherine Gately Lynch, both now deceased. He was united in marriage to Carol A. Havemann on January 3, 1987 in Muscatine. After graduating from Cathedral High School in 1957, he joined the U.S. Air Force. His duty stations included England, Italy, and Texas. After completion of his military service, Joe enrolled at the University of Texas and received his BBA in Accounting in 1971. He subsequently earned an MS in Accounting from the University of Houston in 1974. After passing the CPA exam on first sitting, in 1972 Joe joined Voelkel, Cabaniss amp; Company, an accounting firm in Houston. In 1974, he joined Exxon Company, USA and held various professional and management positions within the Exxon Tax Function. He was Manager of Exxon's State Tax Compliance when he retired from Exxon in January 2000. Throughout the years, Joe had many interests. He was an avid reader and follower of U.S. politics and world events. He had an equal interest in Texas Longhorn football, spending most Texas home football weekends in Austin. He enjoyed a lot of boating, a little hunting, and considerable foreign travel. He valued weekends at their Galveston condo with friends, holiday celebrations at their home in Vermont, family visits to Muscatine, Iowa, the annual Boston Family Turkey Trot to Maine and always he loved just returning home to his sister and family in Boston. Joe was highly valued by his friends and greatly loved by every member of his family. Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Havemann Lynch, who shall miss him profoundly; his sister, Barbara M. Geary and husband Joe; his niece, Barbara Jo Geary, his nephews, Joseph P. Geary III and Robert E. Geary and wife Terri; his great nephews Robert E. Geary, II. and Christopher J. Geary, who is also his godson, and great niece Lauren E. Geary. Through marriage, he is also survived by his brother-in-law Thomas H. Havemann and wife Judy; his sister-in-law Mary K. Jacobson and husband Allen; his brother-in-law Don L. Suhl and wife Beverly; his sister-in-law Mary A. Havemann, seventeen nieces and nephews, sixteen great nieces and nephews and one great great niece.
