Patricia Samuels Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, United Methodist Church, Wapello. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the funeral Wednesday at the church entry. Patricia Jean Samuels, 80, Wapello, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at her home. The Rev. Scott Smith will officiate. Per her wishes, her body has been cremated. Burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Wapello United Methodist Church Children's Department. Mrs. Samuels was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Cairo, the daughter of Jack and Mary Sellers Lihs. She married Gene E. Marshall on May 4, 1947, in Cairo. He preceded her in death in June 1955. She married Harold Dean Samuels on Oct. 14, 1960, in Iowa City. She graduated from Wapello High School in 1943. She worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant, Burlington, for four years and at the Wapello Republican for three years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the UMW Circle in Wapello and had taught Sunday school with the children for 40 years. She was also a member of the Louisa County Historical Society. She had played softball for eight years. She had been an Election Board worker. ...[more]

he loved bowling, fishing, playing cards, quilting and babysitting her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Harold Dean Samuels; two daughters, Teresa Hank and husband Doug of Wapello and Delores "Doddie" Burgus and Dick Roth of Burlington; four grandchildren, Deann Giese and Jeremy Spears, both of Burlington, Brad Hank and wife Chevy and Tyler Hank, all of Wapello; six great-grandchildren, Bradlee and Kirstyn Hank of Wapello, Stasha and Emma Giese of Kirkwood, Ill., Sierra Chaney and Denver French, both of Burlington; three sisters, Wanda Marshall and husband Bill of Wapello, Peggy Lowary and husband Keith of Stratford and Baja Brown and husband Sam of Princeton; two brothers, Jackie Lihs of Winfield and Donald Lihs of Columbus Junction; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gene Marshall; a daughter, Cathy Marshall; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hank; a sister, Shirley Leasch; and a brother, Dean Lihs.
