David Helmick Sr. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, Lunning Chapel, Burlington. Visitation: noon-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, with family present from 6-8 p.m., funeral home. BURLINGTON, Iowa -- David LeRoy Helmick Sr., 58, Burlington, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at his home. The Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf will officiate. After the services, a reception will be held at the Moose Lodge. According to his wishes, his body will be cremated after the services. A memorial has been established. Mr. Helmick was born April 13, 1948, in Burlington, the son of James Raymond and Lela Maude Kimbrough Helmick. He married Kim Shepherd on Aug. 10, 1974, in Rock Island, Ill. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Iowa. He held various positions in sales and finance at Westland Ford, J.D. Byrider and Deery Brothers, Burlington. He was a member of Ss. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, Moose Lodge No. 579 and Burlington Knights of Columbus. He was a Burlington Steamboat Days volunteer for 25 years, P.T.S.O. president of Washington School, active in Boy Scouts and Order of the Arrow, past president of Carroll, Iowa JayCees and member of the Optimist Club. Helmick Jr. of Somerset, Wis.; four grandchildren, Danny Topping, Davie Helmick, Megan Topping and Kade Helmick; five sisters, Mary Hammond of Wapello, Lela Tull of Burlington, Helen Riley of West Burlington, Carol Warth of Burlington and Patricia Boney of Ector, Texas; four brothers, James Helmick of Burlington, John Helmick of Sherman, Texas, Tom Helmick of Burlington and Jack Helmick of Washington, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maxine Schaefer and Karen Soule; and a brother, Dale Helmick.
