He was also a lifetime member of the Martinsburg Vernon Gasser VFW Post #5435, a member of the Ponca American Legion Chapelle Post #117, the Martinsburg Village Board and the Martinsburg Rural Fire Dept. Bruce's grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave him great enjoyment. He became known to the kids as "PaPa Candy" because he always carried Tootsie Rolls to hand out. He also enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley Book of Martinsburg, Nebraska; daughters, Sheila (Michael) Floyd of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Julee Book Lubken (Craig Lamprecht, fiancé) of Grand Island, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren, Michelle Kober, Corey Floyd, Crystal Bosshamer, Casey Floyd, Leslie Book and Ryan Book; 5 great-grandchildren, Andrew Kober, Brailey Kober, Brock Floyd, Brody Floyd, Blake Bosshamer; several nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Frieda; his son, Loren "Jake" Book; and siblings, Lavon Sinclair, LaVerne, Meryl, Earl and Terry.
