Stephen Spencer Jr. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, Ill. ILLINOIS CITY, Ill. - Stephen R. Spencer Jr., 79, Illinois City, died Friday, March 9, 2007, at his home. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Illinois City or Andalusia volunteer fire departments. Mr. Spencer was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Stephen R. and Anna Lee (Jameson) Spencer. He formerly married Norma Seward on Sept. 8, 1951, in Rock Island. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a man of varied interests. He owned and operated his own towboat, ''C. Logsdon'', during the 1960s. He built and operated one of the last old-time sawmills and used that knowledge to construct his own log home. He was a member of the Rock Island County Historical Society. The Spencer Family's book collection on the American Classics and local area history was donated to the library at Augustana College.
