COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa -- Gayla Jean Van Auken Boyd, 50, of Columbus Junction, died Monday, May 28, 2007, in Columbus Junction, following a courageous battle with cancer for 2 ½ years. The Revs. Harry Swan and Catherine Whitlatch will officiate. Casketbearers will be Jeramie Hoag, Elijah Hoag, Levi Hoag, Pat Boyd, Doug Boyd and Bryan Martin. Honorary casketbearers will be Isaac Lukins, Mitchell Lukins, Colby Counce, Jesse Rivers, Jr., Naomi Counce and Olivia Counce. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Hospice. Mrs. Boyd was born Sept. 9, 1956, in Iowa City, the daughter of Richard and Shirley (Brown) Metzger and the late James Raymond Van Auken. She married Steven Craig Boyd Aug. 14, 1982 in Columbus Junction. She worked as a nursing assistant at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She will be dearly missed by her husband; her daughters, Kristina Marie Boyd of Mesa, Ariz., Dawn Michelle Martin and husband, Bryan, of Ainsworth and Anna Marie Boyd of Columbus Junction; her parents, Richard and Shirley Metzger; her sisters, Peggy and Jon Hoback of Columbus Junction, Sheila Lukins and husband, Mark, of Washington and Melody Counce and special friend, Jesse Rivers, of Washington; two grandchildren, Bryan Willard Martin and Samantha Marie Gomez; two nieces; seven nephews; and many friends and co-workers. She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents; and a nephew, Tyron Miles.
