Lewis Erwin WEST LIBERTY, Iowa -- Lewis R. Erwin, 89, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, following an extended illness. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2007, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. Burial will be in the North Prairie Cemetery in West Liberty. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2007, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Amenity Hospice or the West Liberty Rescue Unit. Mr. Erwin was born July 18, 1918, near West Liberty, the son of Walter and Olive Saurer Erwin. He married Aline Priest on April 14, 1943, in Reno, Nevada. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School. He worked in California as a welder in the shipyards during WWII and later operated a Union 76 service station in Oakland, Calif. He moved back to West Liberty in 1957, when he purchased a farm. He and his wife farmed north of West Liberty for many years. Iowa City and Stan Erwin and his wife, Sue, of Burlington; three grandchildren, Kimberly Stacy, Stephanie Erwin and Joshua Erwin and his wife, Heidi; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a sister.
