A funeral service for Donna Hanson, 78, from Algona, will be held Thursday, August 5, at 10:30 AM at Burt Presbyterian Church and will be live streamed on Burt Presbyterian Church's Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Presbyterian-Church/Burt-Presbyterian-Church-632335427120774/. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Her family will greet friends from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at Oakcrest of Algona and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. When coming to the visitation because of Moore Street being closed, please enter the funeral home parking lot off of Dodge Street. Donna Kay Hanson was born September 16, 1942, in Algona, daughter of Michael and Ruth (Campbell) Long. She grew up in Burt graduating from Burt High School in 1960. Donna married Dennis Hanson on December 14, 1968, in Sacramento, California. They met earlier at the Algona Roller Skating Rink, fell in love and moved to California. Upon retirement in the summer of 2005, Donna and Dennis returned to Algona to be near family and friends. Donna loved to do genealogy and was the Long family's expert on tracing ancestry. She enjoyed reading and in later years she enjoyed raising chickens on their farm. Donna K. Hanson died Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at the age of 78. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dennis of Algona; two children, Deborah Hanson of Algona, and Kenneth (Christina) Hanson of Algona; 7 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Stephen Hanson of Algona, Kaeli Davis (Jacob Gosch) of West Bend and their two children, Oliver Jacob and Adelyn Gladys, Deanna Davis of Ankeny, Maybell Davis of Algona, Calipso McCann, Corvinus Hanson, and Kyeson Hanson all of Algona. She is also survived by four sisters and a brother, Patricia Funk of Algona, Janet (Larry) Johnson of Burt, Daniel Long of Burt, Ruth (Ted) Isebrand of Burt, and Florence (Dennis) Swanson of Algona; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Michael in 1987, her mother Ruth in 2011; and a baby sister Bonnie.
