Dennis Monroe MUSCATINE, Iowa - Dennis L. Monroe, 59, of Muscatine, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Knoxville. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Reverend Melvin Grimes will officiate services. Honorary bearers will be Howard Peniston, Ernie Peniston and David Atwater. Casket bearers are John Monroe III, John Peniston, Alan Carlisle, Robert Peniston, Dennis Hawkins and Randy Wagler. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites by the combined units of the V.F.W Post No. 1565 and the American Legion Post No. 27. Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the American Legion Post No. 27. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home. Dennis Lee Monroe was born on March 25, 1949, in Davenport, the son of John F. and Thelma Mallory Monroe. He will be deeply missed by fianc�'©, Betty Atwater, of Rock, Island, Illinois; two daughters, Stephanie Miller and Andrea Monroe, both of Muscatine; two grandchildren, Jorre and Briggs; two brothers, Gregory S. Monroe and Jeffrey A. Monroe and wife, Lynda, all of Muscatine; one sister, Eileen Monroe-Wilmington of Springfield, Virginia; nieces and nephews, John Monroe, III, Mark Monroe, Randy Hammerich, Alecia Wilmington, Cassandra Monroe and Nathan Monroe; and many aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Monroe Jr.
