Ruth E. Cruikshank

Ruth E. Cruikshank, 99, of Algona, died Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Good Samaritan Society - Algona. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Ruth Esther Cruikshank was born January 28, 1922 in Algona, daughter of Frank and Clara (Granzow) Cruikshank. She grew up in Algona and graduated from Algona High School. Ruth then attended Iowa State Teachers College for one year. Following Iowa State Teachers College, she transferred to the University of Iowa for three years and became a Registered Nurse. Ruth also attended the University of Colorado where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. In 1945, Ruth enlisted in the United States Army Nurse Corps where she served in World War II. She was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. Ruth was assigned as a general duty nurse in the United States and Pacific Theatre. She worked in both general and station hospitals. She was responsible for all nursing care given to surgical and medical patients. Ruth was honorably discharged on April 7, 1946. Ruth loved to travel.
