Roger W. Marshall, 63, of Keokuk, IA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Tuesday, June 21st after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the first born of James Albert and Maxine Mitchell Marshall on Jan 23rd, 1948 in Keokuk, IA. On July 27th, 1968 he married Suann Gates. They were blessed with 3 wonderful children; Tammy (Jeff) Harper of Independence, MO, Bryan Marshall of Keokuk, IA, and Tony (Rachel) Marshall of Troy, IL. He loved and enjoyed his 3 grandchildren, Carrie, Aaron and Cameron Harper also of Independence, MO. He is also survived by his mother, brothers Dennis (Michelle) Marshall and Todd Marshall of Keokuk, IA; sisters Kathy (Rick) Cravens of Keokuk and Jennifer (Dan) Oakland of Brandon, SD in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father James Marshall and his grandparents. He graduated from Keokuk Sr. High School in 1967 where he gained a love for sports. He participated in Football, Wrestling and Golf. His love for his country lead him to join the U.S. Navy Feb 14th, 1968. Savior and joined the Lutheran faith. He became a member of the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk where he served on the church council. He returned to Keokuk to raise his family. He worked in sales throughout the area, most recently at Shottenkirk in Ft Madison, IA. He was an active member of the Keokuk Jaycees, serving as Street Fair Chairman ('80), Regional Speak-Up Chairman ('80-'81), Keokuk President ('80-'81) and honored as Outstanding Regional President ('80-'81). On Jan 19, 1984 he was presented with the highest Jaycee honor being named an Iowa Jaycee Senator. He was also named a Lifetime Iowa Senator. He took a great deal of pride in serving his community through his work with the Jaycees. His love for golf began at the age of 10 when he was a caddy at the Keokuk Country Club and continued throughout his entire life. He was an accomplished golfer and a member of the Keokuk Elk's Lodge #106 for 29 years. In 2008 he finished 2nd place in the second flight of the city tournament. In 2009 he finally scored a hole-in-one on the 5th hole during the Elks Club Championship. He achieved a life-long dream of attending The Master's golf tournament in April of this year. Visitation will be held at DeJong/Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau in Keokuk, IA on Thursday, June 23rd, beginning at 2pm with family meeting friends from 5pm-8pm. There will be an Elks Memorial service at 7:45pm. Memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church (1101 Blondeau) on Friday, June 24th at 11am. Inurnment with Military rites will follow at Keokuk National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Lutheran Church or Elk's #106 Relay for Life Team.
