William Louis Bunting
William Louis Bunting, MD, passed away at the age of 91 on October 26, 2021 in Phoenix Arizona. Bill was born in Evanston Illinois on June 14, 1930. In 1952 he married Diane Taylor, the love of his life, who predeceased him in 2017. He completed his Premed and Medical School at Northwestern University in Chicago where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the Nu Sigma Nu Medical Fraternity. He served in the US Air Force as a Flight Surgeon for 2 years and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain before completing his Residency and Fellowship in Internal Medicine and Hematology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. From 1962 to his retirement in 1995 he was in the private practice of Hematology and Oncology having taken his Oncology Board exam in 1977 within years of it first being offered. He not only excelled in his profession but was valued by his patients and their families for his genuine caring of them and for them. Bunting. After his retirement, he did return to work for Hospice for several years but was able to spend more time with a close group of friends quail hunting in Arizona and fly fishing, especially in and around West Yellowstone, Montana where they bought and shared a fishing cabin. He referred to fly fishing not as a hobby but as "a way of life." He is survived by his children Catherine Bunting and David Bunting of Phoenix Arizona and Sara Bunting, MD, of Los Altos California as well as his grandchildren Sean Bunting and Tyler Fetterman.
