Harold T. Cluney, 78, of Hartsville, South Carolina, formerly of Burlington, died 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2011 at the McLeod Reginal Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina. Born November 17, 1932 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Nelson and Blanche Heller Cluney. On October 10, 1959 he married Bonnie Neff. He served in the Army from 1952-1954. Harold was a Machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1996. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church his entire life, having served in several roles along the way. From Sunday school teacher, song leader, bus driver, to acting in Easter productions. Harold was always involved in ministry. Even after moving to South Carolina in 2009, he (and Bonnie) continued to be active in church and a nursing home ministry. Anyone who knew Harold also knew of his junkyard hobby. His favorite hangout was at his junkyard "in the country". For years he was a fisherman and would stop there to clean the fish before taking the catch of the day home. ings that kept Grandpa Harold laughing. He shared many fond memories and funny stories from time spent there. A "people person" is how to best describe Harold. It would seem to some that he knew EVERYONE. Whether he knew you by name or not, Harold wouldn't hesitate to say hello and strike up a conversation. He had a great sense of humor and a genuinely good heart. These are the things we loved and will miss the most! He is survived by his wife Bonnie Cluney of Hartsville, SC; two daughters, Lisa (Sean) Spears and Nancy (Chris) Creagan both of Roanoke, VA; one son, Tom (Denise) Cluney of Hartsville, SC; eight grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Cluney of Danville, Eugene Cluney of Pleasant Hill, IA, and Paul Cluney of Danville; and one sister, Leona Pitts of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Greg and Tim Cluney, and three brothers, Lloyd, Harley and Leroy Cluney. The funeral services for Mr. Harold Cluney will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9th at First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Don Crawford and Rev. Norman Wenig will officiate. Interment will be in Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 8th in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
