Elma Hegberg

Elma Agnes (Wiens) Hegberg was born on July 12, 1926, in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota, to the late Jacob J. and Ernstina (Pankratz) Wiens. She received her early education in rural District #16 in South Carson Township and then attended Mountain Lake Bible School. Elma then moved to Oregon and married Richard Paul Hegberg on June 30, 1946 in Dallas, Oregon. This marriage ended in a divorce and she moved back to Windom, Minnesota in 1960 where she was active in the Mennonite Church in Delft, Minnesota. In 1967, Elma moved to St. Paul, Minnesota to work for the post office from which she retired in 1990 after 23 years of service. She was active in the church in St. Paul and sang with the Sweet Adelines. She took three trips to the Holy Land and traveled extensively in Europe and the United States, including Alaska. Elma passed away on July 24, 2011 while traveling in Portland, Oregon at the age of 85.
