Anna H. Smith

Anna H. Smith, 94 of Keokuk died at 5:30 PM on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at River Hills Village. She was born on May 5, 1917 a daughter to Karl H. & Katherine McManus Hemmy in Keokuk, IA. Anna married R. Buell Smith on June 21, 1938 in Keokuk, IA, he preceded her in death in 1974. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. Anna served on the Library Board, the Friendly House Community Center, Lee County Historical Society, Ladies of St. Francis DeSales and the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. Anna is survived by one son, John H. (Jack) Smith and his wife, Mary Jo, of Keokuk; six grandchildren, Julie Bashore (Tracy), Kathy Smith Leggett, Justin Smith, (Kathy), Cara Smith Penry, Ted Smith (Gina) and Dayton Smith (Jessica) along with ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, James B. Smith and one brother: John K. Hemmy, Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 15 at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Roost officiating. Her body will then be donated to the University of Iowa Schools. Burial of her ashes will take place at a later date in National Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Mem...[more]
