Daniel "Dan" Riffel

Mr. Daniel "Dan" Joseph Riffel, 87, of Mediapolis and formerly of West Burlington, died at 1:41 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2011, at Great River Medical Center. Born September 4, 1923 in near Dodgeville in Des Moines County, he was the son of William Roy and Mary Jane Beckman Riffel. On June 26, 1946 he married Mary Josephine Roederer in Burlington. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2009. Mr. Riffel worked in motel management and real estate. He served as a past president of the Burlington Board of Realtors and Multiple Listing Service. Mr. Riffel was a member of SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Elks Club. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Hawkeye fan, loved to dress up for Halloween and especially loved being with his family. Survivors include four sons, James D. (Pam) Riffel of Mequon, Wisconsin, Thomas A. (Sue) Riffel of Phoenix, Arizona, Ronald J. (Lori) Riffel of Camdenton, Missouri and Jon B. (Denise) Riffel of Burlington; two daughters, Julie M. , Indiana and Mark Riffel of Mediapolis; one daughter-in-law, Cyndie Riffel of Linn Creek, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, wife, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. The family will receive friends following a 5 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary until 7 p.m. Sunday, September 4th, in Lunning Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Riffel will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 5th, in SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church. The Rev. David Steinle will be the celebrant and Deacon Cliff Beckman will assist. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.
