Ruth Ann McClelland

Ruth Ann McClelland, daughter of Raymond and Ola (Axland) Sleister, was born June 29, 1940, at home in Greeley Township, Shelby County, Iowa. She attended Greeley #1 through the eighth grade and graduated from Manilla High School in 1958. Ruth then attended Iowa Western Community College and became an LPN. Ruth was united in marriage with Douglas McClelland and four children were born to this marriage. From 1958 to 1976, Ruth worked in Council Bluffs at Jennie Edmundson Hospital and Mercy Hospital. The family then moved to Manilla where she worked in the Manilla Manor and Manning Plaza until she retired. Ruth was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Irwin. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing embroidery, latch hook, reading, and collecting giraffes, apples and owls. Ruth dearly loved her family and cherished going to the activities of her children and grandchildren. If anyone was in need, Ruth was there to help them, especially if it was family. On Sunday, February 6, 2022, Ruth passed away at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning. She was 81 years, 7 months and 8 days of age. Ruth is survived by a son Doc (Karen) McClelland of Centerview, Missouri; daughters Jeanne (Paul) Heiman of Manilla and Monica McClelland of Manilla; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister Bonnie (Tom) Crispin of Waukee; and a special cousin Linda (Leroy) Palmer of Manilla.
