Rolland L. Fritz
Mr. Rolland L. Fritz, 81, of rural Burlington died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Blair House Nursing and Rehab. Born May 28, 1930 in Burlington he was the son of Walter and Ethel Pfeiff Fritz. On June 18, 1950 he married Barbara M. Schwerin in Burlington. Together they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Rolland attended Brush College and was a 1949 graduate of Burlington High School Rolland farmed all his life on the Fritz Family Century Farm with his Farmall tractor. He was of the protestant faith. Rolland was a member of Des Moines County Farm Bureau where he had served as past president, a voting delegate and bowled on their league for many years. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and Loyal Order of Moose, and was a 4-H leader. He was a proud member of the Pork Producers for many years, and produced the best pork around! He shot pool for area pool leagues and enjoyed playing cards and going to "Happy Hour". Rolland collected hornets' nests and also had an extensive hat collection. ter, Phyllis (Dennis) Gibbs of Burlington; grandchildren, Jill (Kevin) Dunlop of Burlington, Jeffrah Fritz (Jerimiah Levins) of Burlington and Hillaurie Fritz of Chicago, and Nathan Fritz (Nicole Fenton) of Burlington; and great grandchildren, Samuel Martin and Drake and Avery Levins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, September 23rd, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service for Rolland will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24th, in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Erick Swanson will officiate. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Des Moines County Friends of 4-H and HCI Care Services of Southeast Iowa. In honor of Rolland, please wear jeans or casual attire.
