Madison-Ellen Burke, age 79, of Madison, passed away on Sun. Sep. 25, 2011 of at Meriter Hospital. She was born on Dec.23, 1931 to Thomas and Ruth (Donovan) Burke in Madison. She attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Grade School, Edgewood High School and the University of Wisconsin; where she earned a Bachelor and Master of Library Science. Ellen worked for the State Historical Society of Wisconsin Library for 47 years and retired in 2002.
Ellen is survived by sisters, Ruth Church and Margaret Pachter; brothers, Thomas J. Burke and Michael Burke and 14 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joseph P. Burke, nephew, Gerald Stephen Burke and brother-in-law Skip Church.
A funeral service will be held at Cress Funeral Home on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 12 noon with Msgr. Thomas Baxter presiding. A visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery immediately following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society.
