Merrill Mark Heintz

Merrill Mark Heintz, 61 of Nevada died on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 10 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Mark was born May 26, 1950 in Ames to Merrill M. and Virginia (McDonald) Heintz. He was a 1968 graduate of Nevada High School and attended Iowa State University. Mark served in the 101st Airborne Army during the Vietnam War. On May 3, 1973, he married M. Jane Potter in Nevada. Mark was employed with the Nevada Post Office for over 36 years. He was a member of the William F. Ball American Legion Post #48, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and served on the Nevada Community School Board. Mark was the proprietor of DT & BW (Duck Tape & Bailing Wire). He enjoyed farming, traveling, woodworking, and being with Shane and Christine's dogs. Mark was a master tinker who loved to work on anything mechanical. Mark is survived by two sons, Shane M. nephew Wayne Buttry; 3 nieces Kelly Myers, Angie Probasco and Abby Buttry. Mark was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9 with the family present from 2-4:00 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. Memorials may be directed to Wounded Warriors, AFTD, or the Story County Animal Shelter. Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with the care of Mark and his family.
