Constance Joy Meyer
Contance (Connie) Joy Meyer, 83, of Hampton, Iowa, formerly of rural Bradford passed peacefully to her new life on Oct. 12, 2011 at the Hampton Rehabilitation Center. Connie was born February 8, 1928 to Howard and Pearl (Hamilton) Klousia of rural Hampton. Connie was a child of the Great Depression, grew up on the farm, and throughout her life her feet have remained deeply rooted in Iowa's rich soil. In 1946, Connie graduated from Hampton High School and attended Iowa State University. Wendell Kasper Meyer and Connie were married on May 6, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Hampton, IA. Connie was a 4-H leader for over 25 years while raising seven children. Their family attended St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Geneva, IA. Connie taught Sunday school for many years. After Wendell died in 1980, she raised the remaining children at home and became an active volunteer in her local community. Connie never retired! Her passion was to preserve Franklin County history. She was a lifetime member of the Franklin County Historical Society. She helped inventory all 38 cemeteries within the county. unteered at the Franklin County Historical museum. Connie spent over 30 years traveling the United States and Canada in search of the missing puzzle pieces in her family history. Her family genealogy library has grown to approx. ninety-eight 5-inch notebooks. Surviving sons are Alan Wendell (Patty) Meyer of Iowa Falls, Howard Kasper (Pam) Meyer of Des Moines, Terry Lee (Cindy) Meyer of Palo, Timothy Charles (Cindy) Meyer of Eugene, OR, Steven Hamilton Meyer of Hampton. Surviving daughters include Wendy Joy (James) Zohrer of West Des Moines, and Sally Annette (Jeffrey) Chapman of Sioux Falls, SD. Connie's family also includes ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was also survived by Blackie her cat. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and husband. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
