V. Lowell Wellman, age 88, of Quincy, died on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 4:30 a.m. in his home. Lowell was born October 12, 1933 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Alfred and Lillian Brocksieck Wellman. He married Patricia J. Whitney on July 10, 1953 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on January 13, 2017. Lowell was a 1952 graduate of Quincy High School. He proudly served eight years in the United States Army, with 14 months in Korea. He worked as a mapmaker for six years at Artcraft, 24 1/2 years at Electric Wheel as a tool and machine designer, and 14 years at The Illinois Veterans' Home where he was Chief of Security. He retired in 1995. Lowell also spent over 40 years helping people remodel their homes. In his spare time, Lowell enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and flower gardening. He also enjoyed watching baseball, and he was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Lowell had been a member of Melrose Chapel for over 30 years. ms of Quincy; six grandchildren: Casey (Kelly) Wellman of Quincy; Heather (Mark) Gregory of Liberty; Harold "Chip" (Becky) Hyslop of LaBelle, MO; Amanda Hegg of Hamilton, IL; Kayla Meado of Quincy; and Zane Miller of Quincy; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Loren Wellman. Services: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 37 and the United State Army Funeral Detail. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
