John Lee Winters, 73, of Skandia, died peacefully at his home Wednesday, August 31, 2022. He was born August 7, 1949, in Garden City, Kansas, a son of the late John O. and Elberta M. (Counterman) Winters. John worked for many years as a truck driver, mechanic and heavy equipment operator for various companies and himself. John served his country in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. He was a loving, family oriented man who enjoyed living in the country, fishing and hunting. He will be remembered by his family for his strong passion for songwriting and singing with his guitar and writing stories and books as well as being a person who would help anyone. John is survived by his children, Tina Winters of Gwinn, Chad Winters of Skandia and Donna Johnson of Skandia; step-son, Roy (Jana) Johnson of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Kyle Winters, Jacob and Nathaniel Johnson; a great-grandson, Elijah DeVowe; siblings, Dick Winters of Lower Michigan, Dennis (Karen) Winters of Florida, Steven (Peggy) Winters of Skandia, Melvin (Julie) Winters of Skandia and Scott Winters of Alaska; former spouse, Jean Winters of Gwinn; and several nieces & nephews.
