Mary T. Whelan
Mary "Marie" Whelan, age 91, passed away peacefully in Voorhees on December 10, 2022. She lived a long and beautiful life. Beloved Wife of the late Patrick. Cherished mother of Peggy (Michael). Sister to the late William and late Thomas. Loving Aunt to her many nieces and nephews; she was also "Aunt Marie" to numerous others whom she treated just like nieces and nephews. Marie truly made everyone feel special with her warm and generous spirit; she was always up for a visit to hear the "happenings" of others. Marie was born in Philadelphia and then as a young girl, she moved with her family to Magnolia. After marrying, she moved to Somerdale, which became her family home for many years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Superior Record Pressing Corp for many years (as well as Steiger Services and Strubel and Moffat in other years). After retiring, she volunteered at Our Lady of Grace rectory. Marie found great joy in hosting family gatherings such as Christmas day breakfasts and visits from the Pennsylvania nieces and nephews. in her eye, she warmly welcomed anyone stopping by whether it be a friend, neighbor or one of Peggy's many friends. Marie was a great conversationalist with a contagious giggle. Marie was always surrounded by a large group of family and friends and was diligent in keeping in touch with regular visits and phone calls including her childhood friend, Peachie, her Camden Catholic girlfriends, Our Lady of Grace Church community and many former neighbors and co-workers. When Marie moved into her assisted living community, although sad to leave her family home, she embraced this new phase of life as she had done all along, being very social and making new friends with her kind, warm and welcoming manner. There will be a viewing from 10am to 11:45am on Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish - St Luke Roman Catholic Church, 55 Warwick Rd, Stratford, NJ 08084. Funeral Mass 12pm at the Church. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin.
