Emmett Fred Hudson, age 79, died on January 10, 2023, at his home in Grosse Pointe Park surrounded by his family after a 3-year courageous battle with cancer. Emmett was born on July 8, 1943, in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan to the late Fred and the late Martha (nee: Irvine) Hudson. Emmett grew up in Grosse Pointe. He was a proud graduate of Grosse Pointe High School. He was as a press operator at the Budd Company for over 30+ years, in addition to other side jobs working 14 hours a day 5+ days a week. He was able to retire at the age of 52 which allowed him to travel for over 20 years with his wife, Barbara. The couple loved cruising and enjoyed over 90 cruises together. Emmett's favorite cruise was through the Panama Canal. At the young age of 13, Emmett and his brother, Lester age 14, bought a house and rented it out for a passive income. They worked extremely hard saving their snow shoveling and paper route money to afford the purchase. His mother was a realtor and instilled a smart business mindset into him at a young age. dn't let out of her sight. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary last year. Throughout his life, Emmett found joy in caring for his rental flats. He was very handy and liked keeping all the properties in great shape. Emmett was a true Mr. Fix-It and tended to every repair himself and took great care in weekly upkeep with each changing season. In his spare time, Emmett enjoyed boating and water skiing with his family on the Detroit River. In his retirement he enjoyed spending days by the pool in his yard. He loved his red 1981 corvette and was very proud of his granddaughters' accomplishments and personal successes. He had a heart of gold and always lent a hand to those who needed help. Emmett was honored by the Red Cross for donating 27 gallons of blood and saving countless number of lives due to his rare blood type. Emmett's best friend was his son, Tim. The pair would talk on the phone three times a day and would meet for breakfast every morning, until Emmett fell ill. In 2019, Emmett was the 1% of men who are diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It eventually spread to his lungs and in July 2021, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Although he was ill, Emmett drove himself, and his wife, to over 90% of his treatments. His wife, Barbara, stood by his side and cared for him at their home in Grosse Pointe Park. Through the toughest battle, Emmett never once complained and passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and two children. He remained resilient and will be missed by all who knew him. Emmett was the loving husband of Barbara. Dear father of Kimberly (Doug) Hudson Mervis and Timothy (Pauline Breiss) Hudson. Cherished grandfather of Morgan Mervis, Madison Mervis, and Samantha Carmack. Beloved brother of Lester (Connie) Hudson. Dearest uncle of Mark Hudson, Chad Hudson, Daniel Hudson, Edward Hudson, and Andrew Hudson. Visitation will take place on Monday, January 16, 2023, from 10 am until 12 noon at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon.
