SOUTH RIVER-THOMAS J. BENKO passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023 at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison. He was 86 years old. Born in Indiana, PA, to Frank and Dorothy (née Roberts) Benko, he resided in Old Bridge before moving to South River. Prior to retiring, he was a mechanic for Exxon Mobil for over 55 years in New Brunswick, East Brunswick, and Spotswood. Thomas was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church in Old Bridge. In his leisure time, coached baseball at Old Bridge Little league for 20 years. Loved watching his Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, gardening and spending time with his family. Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Mary H. Benko in 1996; his parents; his sister, Barbara J. Yarusinsky; his son Thomas M. Benko; and his granddaughter, Grace Benko. Surviving are his sons, James A. Benko and his wife, Lori, of Sayreville, William E. Benko and his wife, Barbara, of Edison; his daughter, Mary Ann Benko of Newark, DE; his brother, Stanley (Jack),his sisters, Elizabeth(Betty) and Linda Benko of Indiana, PA; his grandchildren, Thomas (Colette), Matthew, Corey (Zulie), Jensen, Abigail, Faith, and Kelsie and his great-grandchildr...[more]

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 30th, 2023, at 10:00 am, at St. Thomas the Apostle R.C.
