R. Bernece Richins

Ruby Bernece (Mott) Richins, loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 93 on June 18, 2024. Bernece was born to Alice Abegglen and Vern Mott on April 11, 1931. In her Senior year of high school Bernece was introduced to Fran, the love of her life by a friend. They were married on May 28, 1949. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They shared and enjoyed almost 73 years of marriage. Together they raised 4 children. She always said that they had a very adventurous life. Their family always came first. They camped, hunted, fished and explored together. She put up with all the animals that dad brought home to live with us. Bernece was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Bernece always put husband and childrens needs before her own needs. As the children grew she had several occupations. She was a school bus driver when we lived in Colorado. She worked as a legal secretary for several years. The last job before retiring was working in the Uintah County Assessor office. Bernece was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in may positions. Her favorite calling was serving in the Vernal Temple where she and Fran served for many years. Bernece and Fran served a mission in Sierra Leone, Africa. She loved the people they meet, taught and served there. Bernece was a loving humble mother who taught her children and grandchildren through her example and service. Bernece is preceded in death by her husband Francis Richins; parents Alice and Vern Mott, siblings Larry Mott, Jack Mott, Connie Lee and Eddie Mott; son-in-law James Smith; and grandson Nathan Richins. Bernece is survived by her children; Debra Smith, Lester (Teresa) Richins, Devin (Cindy) Richins and Shawn (Sandra) Richins; 25 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held, Saturday June 29, 2024 at 11:00am at the Jensen LDS Ward Chapel (8775 East 6000 South) in Jensen. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:45am ~ 10:45am all at the church. Interment will be in Vernal Memorial Park, with Military Honors for Bernece's beloved husband Francis Albert Richins who passed away in February 2022. Services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
