It is with profound sadness that the family of Harry Charles Scholz, Jr. shares the loss of their patriarch who passed away Sunday at the age of 95. His humor will be missed. His dedication to his wife and family will be cherished. His craft and skill were appreciated by all those family, friends and neighbors he graciously helped. Harry was born on May 17th 1929 in Camden, NJ and raised there by his parents Harry Scholz Sr. and Charlotte Scholz (nee O'Hara). He married Dorothy Ellen (nee Forland) with whom he would spend the next 75 years. He joined the Army/ NJ National Guard at the age of 19 and served four years until earning an honorable discharge in June 1952. He spent 30+ years as a career firefighter for the city of Camden until his retirement as a Captain in 1989. Later they moved to Maple Shade, Manahawkin, and Cinnaminson, NJ. Harry loved boating, crabbing and fishing, gardening, woodworking, trivia, word puzzles, telling jokes and cherished his time with family and friends. wife's sisters, Irene Griffin & Claretta Boutilier, and their children, Harry's four nieces and two nephews. In his golden years he saw his family expand to include five grandchildren, Andrew (Holly), Justin (Amy), Marielle, Sarah and Hillary, six great grandchildren, Maggie, Bradley, Benjamin, Tyler, Lucy, and Elwood, 13 great-nieces/nephews, and 17 great-great nieces/nephews. For a man who treasured family, he certainly was blessed and always inviting. Harry was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all. There will be a visitation from 11am until 1pm on Friday, June 28 at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Memorial service 1pm at the funeral home. Interment is private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, tribute gifts in Harry's memory can be made to The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ, ( rwjbh.org ) which provides firefighter health/safety programs and treatment/rehabilitation for firefighters injured in the line of duty.
