Jonathan Bragg Sunkees
Jonathan Bragg Sunkees, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home with his family, Sunday, July 7, 2024. Jon was born June 3, 1942 to David Cornelius and Madeline Sunkees in Los Angeles, California. Jon grew up in Santa Monica, California. He had three siblings Elizabeth, Bruce and Gerry. Jon left California after High School and played football for 2 years at BYU.Then went to the University of Utah and played football there for one year. There he met the love of his life Janet Colton who was attending Beauty College in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later married on June 15, 1963 in Vernal Utah. The had three sons Matthew, Nathan, and Andy. Jon coached many baseball and Basketball games, and watched many of their wrestling matches. Jon loved the outdoors, he camped, hunted and LOVED to fish. He enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. Jon was proud to serve in the Utah National Guard. He worked at the family mink farm in Vernal. Jon retired from Schlumberger. He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife Janet Isabella Colton Sunkees, his parents David Cornelius and Madeline Sunkees, his siblings Elizabeth Sunkees, David Bruce Sunkees, and Gerald Lee Sunkees. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Canyon Home Health and Hospice, Dr. Rockhill and his Nurse Misty, Ivan Merrell family, the Watts family for their many hours of kind care spent taking care of Jon. And for the National Guard for the military honors. Funeral services for Jon will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00am at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday from 6:00pm ~ 8:00pm and Saturday from 8:45am ~ 9:45am all at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 11 and The Patriot Riders of Utah.
