John Schwark Walker

John Schwark Walker of Urbandale, Iowa (formerly of Lincoln ,IL and Washington, IA) passed away quietly on July 21, 2024 at age 98. He was blessed with a long healthy life playing tennis and biking into his 80s and 90s. John was born May 29, 1926 in Fountain City, Wisconsin to Pearl and Esther Walker. His middle and high school years were spent in Guttenberg, Iowa. Growing up on the Mississippi River, he developed his love of swimming, ice skating, fishing and hunting. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps on Iwo Jima and Saipan. After the war, he studied at the University of Wisconsin, earning a degree in Agronomy. His long career included management with Northrup King and other seed corn companies. In 1951, John married Olive Marie Jones of Lime Springs, Iowa. They raised two children; Pam and Phillip. John is survived by his sister Jane Klink and brother-in-law Bill of Indio, CA; his daughter Pam Barton (Denny) of Urbandale, IA; his son, Phillip Walker (Heather) of Boulder, CO; his 3 grandchildren: Brooklyn Campbell (Spencer) of Tulsa OK, Jackson Barton (Kalyn) of Knoxville TN, and Cayley Walker of Denver CO.
