Daniel Christopher Symmonds

Daniel Christopher Symmonds, passed away on August 11th, 2024 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics from complications following a planned procedure. He was 64 years old. His family and friends are deeply saddened by his sudden death. Dan was born on December 30, 1959 in Keokuk, Iowa. Dan is survived by his brothers Philip (Betty), Monte (Candy), Virgil (Jane), Marty (Martha), Scott (Christina) Symmonds and sisters Denise (Richard) Adams, Krista (George) Farmer, and Theresa Nixon (Denny Ballew), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his extended family, who often introduced Dan as the brother we never had, Tammy Heckethorn, Christine Felos and Terri Ferguson. Dan never had children of his own but that did not stop him from becoming father and one of the most important people in their lives to Joshua Ehrenhard, Chelsea Parker, Ryan Parker, Sothavy Shreck and grandfather to Carsyn Ehrenhard, Jeremy Parker, Amari Zapata, Farrah Parker and Dominic Clausi. owa and attended Fairfield High School, graduating in the Class of 1978. Dan worked 30 years at Dexter in Fairfield and most recently for Panama Transfer in Richland, Iowa. He was a long-time member and former President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie # 1927. Dan was passionate about football and loved his Dallas Cowboys and Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed listening to music and could rarely be stumped on music trivia, especially when it came to his favorite band, Styx. He was also an avid disc golfer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and extended family and enjoyed his times having dinner with his adoptive kids and grandkids at Hu-Hot. He rarely missed a family event, including holidays, birthdays and graduations, no matter which family member. He really enjoyed his annual camping trip with his brothers to Indy and the family reunions at Zooville. Dan's infectious personality earned him countless friends. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his dependability, his genuine selfless caring, his ability to say just what he was thinking, and, most of all, his unmistakable laugh. As soon as you heard it, you knew Dan was there. Dan lived life fully and didn't much care what anyone thought of him. He made an impact on many lives and will be forever missed. Until we meet again.
