Joan Schunke

Joan Schunke, age 82, of Antigo, died on August 17, 2024 at Rosalia Gardens Assisted Living. She was born on October 25, 1941 in Amherst, a daughter of Sidney Keener and Helen (Yopek) Lewis. She married Gerald Schunke on August 21, 1965 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Joan was a graduate of Amherst High School, class of 1959. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Mrs. Schunke taught at the Antigo High School and North Central Technical College for 34 years. She was a member of St. John Catholic Parish and served as Lector and was a past Parish Council President. Joan was a hospital volunteer in both Antigo and Tucson, Arizona. She also volunteered for the United Way as a campaign chairman. She was involved in the Antigo Community Theater and was a counselor at the Lions Camp in Rosholt. She enjoyed golfing, making baskets and crocheting. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 22 at 11 a.m. at St John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann and Rev. Robert Thorn concelebrating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church in Hoffmann Hall.
