Robert Scherer

Robert "Bob" Scherer, 71, Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, after a seven-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born on February 7, 1940 in Manitowoc, WI, he was the son of Lloyd and Marie (Trost) Scherer. Bob graduated from Lincoln High School where he served as Sophomore Class President and elected to attend Badger Boys State. He lettered in three varsity sports including the 1958 basketball team that played in the state tournament in Madison. He went on to attend Northern Illinois University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. Bob was a proud member of the NIU Baseball team. On August 26, 1961, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Donna Bursek, at St. Paul'ss Catholic Church in Manitowoc. In 1965, the couple moved to Green Bay where he was employed for many years by Fort Howard Paper Company. He later joined Appleton Medical Center as Director of Marketing and Communications. Bob enjoyed golfing and gardening. n, Amanda, Rebecca and Paula. He is further survived by four brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard and Loretta, Dennis and Mary, Kenneth and Sylvia, all of Manitowoc, and Greg and Wendy, Naples, FL. Surviving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include Jerry and Mary Bursek, Santa Barbara, CA, Jim and Sandy Bursek, Townsend, WI, and Ron and Carol Bursek, Kenosha, WI. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marie Scherer, and grandparents, George and Mary Trost, plus several uncles, aunts and cousins. Visitation will take place at Lyndahl Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011, where a parish wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2771 Oakwood Drive, Green Bay, after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Demuth officiating. Inurnment will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery, De Pere. The family would like to thank the hospital staffs at UW Hospital in Madison, Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee, St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay, with special recognition to Dr. Anthony Jazlowski and his staff at Green Bay Oncology as well as the staff of Unity Hospice, especially Ashley. Especially gratifying during the last seven years were the friends and classmates who took the time to stay in touch. Although the collective efforts did not change the final outcome, they certainly made the journey more bearable.
