Margaret Ann Turcotte

Dr. Margaret Turcotte, of Davie, formerly of Durham, Conn., died July 1 after a year-long illness. She was 59. She is survived by her longtime partner, Marshall Nance III, and her daughter, Bethany Tattershall. She is also survived by her two brothers, William C. Mitchard of Connecticut, and John J. Mitchard of North Carolina, and several much-loved nieces and nephews. A single mother and a firm believer in education, Peggy, as she preferred to be called, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Administration at University of New Haven in 1981 and a Master of Business Administration degree in 1982. She was employed at the University of New Haven, first as an adjunct faculty member, and later as the Director of the Executive MBA Program and Director of Executive Development. In 1990, Dr. Turcotte moved to Florida after she was offered a position as Director of the Office of Executive Education at Florida Atlantic University in Fort Lauderdale. She then proceeded to obtain her doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Connecticut in 1993. , she was promoted to Associate Dean of the Business Administration department, where she devoted much of her time and energy to students, faculty and staff. A memorial service will be held at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home in Davie on Sunday, July 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held the following day at Saint David Catholic Church in Davie at 10 a.m. A private burial will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in North Lauderdale.
