Ruth Davis

In lieu of flowers memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Chariton or to the Chariton Public Library. Ruth was born and raised on a farm west of Fremont, Iowa to Wayne and Edna Ahrens. She married Everett Leroy Davis on September 13, 1952 in Fremont and they moved to Chicago, IL, so that Everett could complete optometry school. They settled in Chariton, Iowa and raised two children: Lisa and Steve. An infant son, Phillip Wayne preceded her in death. She was most proud of graduating from Simpson College with a degree in elementary education. Although she never taught school in Chariton, she believed that the key to success was through education. Ruth was an avid golfer and this game preoccupied her time for forty years. She passed this passion on to her children. It also made Everett somewhat of a golf widower. She loved the Lakeview Golf and Country Club and volunteered countless hours picking up cans and bottles for redemption. The money received was spent on improvements at the club. ptember 17, 2008 in Chariton. She will be missed by all of her close friends and most especially by her children. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Dr. Everett Davis, daughter Lisa and her partner Eden Bryant of Dallas, TX, and her son Steve and wife Kris of Parker, Colorado; grandchildren: Megan and Jack; and sisters: Agnes Ahrens of Oskaloosa, and Ellen Kellett of Canyon Lakes, CA. She was preceded in death by her son; her parents; her sisters: Maude, Eunice, and Kathryn; and her only brother Willis.
