Dr. Everett L. Davis, 83, of Chariton passed away on June 22, 2010. He suffered a debilitating stroke in 2002 and had been a resident of Chariton Nursing and Rehab since 2003. Everett was born to Grace and Edgar Davis on December 15, 1926 and was raised on farms near Hedrick, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts in General Science and proceeded to graduate from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry (Chicago) in 1954. Everett practiced Optometry in Chariton, and later in Corydon for 40 years. He married Ruth Ahrens on September 13, 1952 and they raised two children, Lisa and Steve. An infant son, Phillip Wayne, died at birth. Everett served his country in World War II as a Dental Laboratory Technician with the 395th Dental Prosthetic Detachment in Yokohama, Japan. He was a lifelong member of the V.F.W., a 50 year American Legion Member, a 50 year Mason All York Rite Bodies Lodge #63, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and Lucas County Shrine Club member, member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 46, Des Moines, Iowa, member of the Eagles Club, past President of both the Chariton Rotary Club and Chariton School Board, member of the Water Boar...[more]

nd a Charter Member of the Chariton Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chariton and served on Session. Everett enjoyed hunting and fishing when his knees allowed walking, and also enjoyed traveling, reading, photography and especially cooking. He was very proud of his children and his happiest moments were spent driving to either Denver to visit his son Steve and his family or to Dallas to visit his daughter Lisa and her partner. He enjoyed doing things for other people, especially those who were unable to completely care for themselves. His patients always came first and many, including their children and grandchildren, remained loyal throughout his 40 years of practice. Everett was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth and his son Phillip Wayne. He is survived by his children, Lisa and her partner Eden Bryant of Austin, Texas and his son Steve, his wife Kris; their children Megan and Jack of Parker, Colorado; and a sister Rosemary (Neal) Wolfe of Oskaloosa.
