Charles Crane
Memorials to the Truth Assembly of God Church No visitation is planned. Charles Murlin Crane was born September 29, 1929 in Plainville, Kansas to Charles V. and Mable L. Crane. He was the older brother to Donna, Shirley, and Jack. After high school he attended technical school and three years of college. He continued his higher education throughout his life taking many college classes and self-study courses. He loved to read, and study the word of God. Charles first job in 1947 was the rink manager for the Cedar Falls Roller Rink where his eyes fell on a young lady named Corlene Smith. As Charles' story goes: He saw Corlene walk through the door with her roller skates over her shoulder, with long blonde hair and said, "That's for me!", and he taught her to skate. They were married in Cedar Falls on January 26, 1952, and were blessed with four children: Charles Mitchell in 1953, Connie in 1956, Cathy in 1958, and Matthew in 1960. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1950 and served four years during the Korean Conflict. 1980 they moved back to Iowa, living in New Sharon before moving to Chariton where he was plant manager at Chariton Aluminum until its closing in 1990. They moved back to Rockwall, Texas where Charles worked for C-Power and retired in 1994 to spend time with his family. Charles and Corlene started their own business making bird feeders. In 2002 they moved back to Chariton where they could be close to their family. In the time of Charles Crane's life he loved many, taught many, made memories with his family, made many friends, and touched the lives of all who knew him. Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Corlene M. Crane of Chariton; his 4 children: Charles Mitchell Crane and wife Tamara of Newbury Park, CA, Connie Hixenbaugh and husband Richard of Chariton, Cathy Letze and husband Ray of Chariton, and Matthew Crane and wife Jenell of Quinlan, TX; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and sisters: Donna Davis of Phoenix and Shirley VanGenderan of New Sharon. He will be joining his family in heaven; parents: Charles V. Crane and Mable L. Higgins; and a brother Jack D. Crane.
