Irene Cameron

Irene Cameron, age 96, of Albia passed away on Sunday December 18, 2011 at Monroe County Hospital under of the care of Hospice of Monroe County. Irene was born on July 18, 1915 to John and Lena (DeWitt) Price in Avery, Iowa. She was raised by her grandparents Charles A. Hjort and Anna E. (Wilson) Price Hjort. She attended Albia Community Schools. She married Francis Cameron on December 16, 1939 in Ames, Iowa, and they made their home in Albia, Iowa. To this Union three children were born. Irene worked at Latimer's store prior to her marriage; she became a full time homemaker. Francis passed away on March 30, 1979. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, and had belonged to various circles in the Methodist Church over the years. In her early years Irene was a member of the Hour Club and the Pocahontas Lodge where she attended the dances which she loved. Her dance card was always full as she was in demand as a dancing partner. Irene loved to read especially mysteries and romance novels. Irene is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis Cameron, and Vicki (William) Adler, both of Albia, and two grandchildren, Julie Adler of Hiteman and David (Kylie) Adler of Albia. She is also survived by one half sister, Patty (Jack) Swan, one half brother, Charles Price, a sister-in-law, Ruby Shipman, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Francis, son, Richard Cameron, brothers, John E. "Jr." Price, half brothers, Art Shipman, Calvin Shipman, and Robert (Ethel) Price, and half-sisters, Catherine (Phil) Fry and Agnes Shipman. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Albia. Burial will follow in Oak View Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m. and the family will be present from 6-8 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
