Richard J. Ford

Richard Joseph Ford was born February 7, 1940, in Bancroft, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Camilla (Lappe) Ford. He grew up and attended school in Bancroft, graduating from St. John's Catholic High School in 1958. After his schooling he entered the military on January 14, 1960, and served in the United States Army. He served at Camp Roberts in California and on December 31, 1965, was honorably discharged. He returned to the Algona area after his discharge and was united in marriage to Cora Stites. They later divorced. Richard worked at Universal Manufacturing Company in Algona and retired after 40 years. Richard was a private man, but enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed working on anything mechanical and watching Nascar, being outdoors, especially in his garden and feeding the birds. He was a member of St. Cecelia Parish. Richard died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at the Kossuth Regiona Health Center in Algona, Iowa. He was 71.
